Tigers Bantam 2 Crowned Champions!
Submitted By Sherry Duguid on Mon 11 18, 19
The Thornton Tigers Bantam 2 team were crowned champions this weekend at the 2019 Rise Up Cup in Mooretown. The boys battled through a grueling six game schedule and remained the last team standing.

After finishing the round robin with 3 wins and 1 loss, the Tigers were seeded against a strong Paris Wolfpack team in the semi-finals. The Wolfpack had breezed through the round robin with an impressive 4-0 record, 26 goals for and only 3 against. Determined to earn another shot at the Saugeen Shores Storm who handed them their only loss of the round robin, The Tigers swarmed the Wolfpack with a relentless forecheck and puck pressure coming away with an impressive 6-3 win.

The Finals were a rematch between Thornton and Saugeen Shores. After earning their shot at a rematch, a gritty and hungry Tigers teams kept the Storm on their heels the entire game, taking the lead three different times. After a hard fought three periods and both teams tied 3-3, a five minute four on four overtime settled nothing. The first round of shootouts produced some solid goaltending and both teams could only muster a goal apiece. The second round, sudden death shootout, had both teams sending one shooter apiece. The Tigers goaltender came up with a big save on the Storm player opening the door for Thornton’s next shooter who made no mistake and sent his team to their first title of the season.

A very classy and professional weekend boys, all under the watchful eye of the Hockey Gods and our Elf on the Shelf “Pierre”. The Thornton Minor Hockey Association should be extremely proud of the way you handled yourselves both on and off the ice. A strong work ethic, teamwork and willingness to do whatever it takes to win…………the coaching staff and parents are all proud of you boys………Congratulations.
